‘Wake-up call’: Prashant Kishor has a message for PM Modi after big BJP upset in Bankipur
Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj Party, won the Bankipur assembly bypoll and called the BJP's defeat a 'wake-up call' for PM Narendra Modi.
Kishor said the victory was possible with backing of disgruntled supporters of BJP, Congress and RJD, and acknowledged role of Gen Z protests over paper leaks.
Kishor rejected any possibility of alliance for JSP, stating 'Our alliance shall be with the people of Bihar'.
BJP leaders attributed the loss to student protests, caste factor, and drifting away of women voters.
The bypoll was seen as a prestige battle for BJP, which won the November 2025 assembly polls under CM Samrat Choudhary.
