A seat for JSP's 'school bag': Why Prashant Kishor's Bankipur win is a warning for both BJP and RJD
Prashant Kishor of Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) won the Bankipur assembly bypoll, defeating BJP's Neeraj Kumar by 19,324 votes.
The victory ended BJP's 30-year dominance on the seat, which had been held by the father-son duo of Nitin Nabin and Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha for eight consecutive terms.
Kishor, whose JSP lost deposits in 236 of 238 seats in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, made a political comeback with this win.
He criticized Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary, calling the win a message to the BJP central leadership regarding development issues.
