Congress retains Madhya Pradesh's Datia seat; BJP loses bypoll after candidate switch

Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh won the Datia assembly seat bypoll in Madhya Pradesh, defeating BJP's Ashutosh Tiwari by 6,016 votes.
Singh secured 66,757 votes, while Tiwari polled 60,741 votes; Azad Samaj Party's Damodar Yadav came third with 22,527 votes.
The bypoll was held after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti was disqualified following a court sentence in a cheating case.
The BJP had denied a ticket to former state Home Minister Narottam Mishra, who lost to Bharti in 2023, and instead fielded Tiwari.
