Prashant Kishor didn't defeat just BJP, but a Lalu Yadav and a Nitish Kumar too
Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj Party, won the Bankipur Assembly bypoll with 64,151 votes, defeating BJP's Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19,324 votes.
Independent candidates Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar, namesakes of Bihar's veteran leaders, received only 81 and 149 votes respectively, losing their security deposits.
The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of BJP chief Nitin Nabin after his elevation to the Rajya Sabha.
RJD candidate Rekha Gupta lost with 14,273 votes, a significant drop from her 2025 Assembly election performance.
The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 34.30% on July 30, lower than the 41.45% in the 2025 Assembly election.
