First arrest in Moshi tragedy: Project head held by police

Ashok Kumar Gupta (59), project head of Antony Lara Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd., was arrested by Pimpri Chinchwad police.

The arrest is the first in the Moshi tragedy where a building collapse at the PCMC Waste-to-Energy plant killed nine people on July 8, 2026.

Gupta was produced before a local court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody until July 17.

An FIR was registered against Gupta and safety officer Vijay Ramrao Sapkal (38), who is still being sought.

The accident occurred after heavy rainfall caused a heap of garbage to collapse onto a three-storey administrative building.
