A day after building collapse, Bhiwandi civic body orders evacuation of 1,074 unsafe structures
Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) ordered disconnection of water and electricity to 1,074 unsafe buildings to hasten evacuation.
The order follows the collapse of the B-wing of Kohinoor building in Gangaram Wadi, Bhiwandi, which killed 10 and injured 3 on Friday.
The 1,074 structures include 238 in C1 (immediate demolition) and 836 in C2A (major repairs and evacuation) categories.
Mayor Narayan Chaudhary directed officials to conduct spot inspections with evacuation notices and provide temporary shelter in municipal buildings for 5-6 days.
Ward officers were ordered to conduct surprise inspections, including night visits, to prevent unauthorized repair work in unsafe buildings.
