Bhiwandi building collapse: Contractor, owner under lens; collector says structure was beyond repair
At least nine people died and three were injured when a ground-plus-four building in Bhiwandi's Kohinoor compound collapsed early Friday.
Thane Collector Shrikrishna Panchal said the building was C1 (beyond repair) and undergoing unauthorized repair without municipal permission.
The Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) had earlier declared the building dangerous; officials evacuated 30 families on Thursday.
Three people are still feared trapped; rescue operations are ongoing.
The contractor and owner are under investigation, and legal action will be taken, according to Panchal.
