One killed, at least 7 feared trapped after building collapses in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi

One person died and seven to eight are trapped after a portion of the Kohinoor Building in Balaji Nagar, Bhiwandi collapsed around 11:30 pm on Thursday.

The four-storey building had 48 rooms and had been declared dangerous by the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation.

Residents heard loud cracking sounds at around 9 pm and evacuated many families before the 'B' wing caved in.

An injured boy was rescued and rushed to a hospital; rescue operations involve NDRF, Thane Disaster Response Force, and local fire brigade.

The collapse occurred while repair work was underway on the premises.
