Shivakumar postpones meeting with Vijay amid protests over Cauvery water sharing

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar postponed an August 3 meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay amid protests over Cauvery water sharing.

Farmers and Kannada outfits protested against the Cauvery Water Management Authority's (CWMA) rejection of Karnataka's appeal against a directive to release 3,500 cusecs daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.

Protesters tore posters of Vijay's film Jananayagan, forcing some theaters to halt screenings.

Shivakumar said the atmosphere was unsuitable for talks and he would seek another date, emphasizing the need for cordiality.

Karnataka called an all-party meeting to decide next steps after CWMA rejected its appeal.
