Release 3,500 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu: Cauvery authority to Karnataka

The Cauvery Water Management Authority ordered Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.

This mandates a total release of 4 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka appealed the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's order, citing low reservoir levels and drought conditions.

State officials said Cauvery basin reservoirs in Karnataka held 36.7 TMC, lower than 99 TMC last year.

Tamil Nadu opposed Karnataka's plea, arguing the committee's order was minimal and that Karnataka failed to implement the distress-sharing formula.
