Farmers and Kannada outfits protested near KRS Dam against the CWMA's directive to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.

The CWMA upheld the CWRC's recommendation despite Karnataka's contention of scant rainfall and severe drought.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar convened an all-party meeting on August 2 to address the water release issue.

Protesters, including women, symbolically ate grass and rolled on the road; police deployed 1,500 personnel and took several into preventive custody.

Protesters urged a stronger legal fight in the Supreme Court against the water release order.
