CWMA Upholds Cauvery Release Order Despite Karnataka’s Appeal

The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) upheld an order requiring Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.

Karnataka had appealed against the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's order, citing severe drought pressure on reservoir levels.

Cumulative inflows into Karnataka's four Cauvery reservoirs were 65.86% below the 30-year average from June 1 to July 27.

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar convened an all-party meeting in Bengaluru to discuss the dispute.

Officials estimate the extra release could reduce Karnataka's reservoir storage by about 5.5 TM.
