HT Exclusive: KRERA chief calls Bengaluru's tilted tower rebuild an 'unprecedented case'

Karnataka RERA Chairman Rakesh Singh called the voluntary demolition of SNN Raj Corp's 18-storey Bengaluru tower an 'unprecedented case'.
The tower had received an Occupancy Certificate (OC) and was near handover before developing a tilt.
Singh stated a fresh RERA registration is unlikely; instead, a one-year extension under Section 6 of the RERA Act may be granted.
Singh said this is the first such case in the country, with no other RERA having dealt with an OC-approved tower being voluntarily demolished and rebuilt.
The regulator's priority is safeguarding homebuyers' interests, as many had planned to move in.
