'He could captain India': Why Sooryavanshi was named East Zone vice-captain

East Zone selectors appointed 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as vice-captain for the Duleep Trophy.

Selector Manish Vardhan said the move aims to help Sooryavanshi develop leadership skills by observing captain Ishan Kishan closely.

Sooryavanshi has played only 8 first-class matches for Bihar, while Abhimanyu Easwaran has played 113 and was not considered for the role.

Vardhan clarified Sooryavanshi is not the automatic stand-in captain if Kishan is unavailable; an experienced player would likely take charge.

Both Kishan and Sooryavanshi are seen as long-term prospects for India's cricket setup.
