East Zone selector responds to criticism on making Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vice-captain: 'Collective decision'

East Zone selector Pravanjan Mullick defended the decision to make Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vice-captain, calling it a 'collective decision'.

Sooryavanshi was named vice-captain to Ishan Kishan for the Duleep Trophy, days after winning Player of the Series in Zimbabwe with 151 runs in three T20Is.

Mullick said the move will give the 15-year-old greater exposure and help him mature, citing his IPL season with Rajasthan Royals and his role as Bihar's vice-captain in first-class cricket.

The selection meeting was held at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, attended by selectors from CAB, JSCA, TCA, BCA, and OCA.

East Zone will begin their Duleep Trophy campaign against North Zone.
