Kalyan Banerjee suspended from Lok Sabha as rebel MPs complain of foul language
Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from Lok Sabha for the remainder of the monsoon session after women MPs from the party's breakaway faction accused him of using indecent language.
The suspension motion was moved by Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and adopted after Telugu Desam Party MP Krishna Prasad Tenneti informed the House of the complaint.
Banerjee had been critical of 20 rebel MPs, whose merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India is awaiting Speaker Om Birla's approval.
Opposition MPs urged Birla to withdraw the suspension, arguing the alleged incident occurred after the House was adjourned and rules did not apply.
