Idaho In-N-Out shooting: Twin Falls police issue statement

The Twin Falls Police Department issued an emotional statement on Facebook after a mass shooting at an In-N-Out in Twin Falls, Idaho, on August 1, 2026.

The gunman, Chad Williams, 24, killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound; police confirmed the three other fatalities did not include the shooter.

An off-duty Idaho State Police trooper and a citizen returned fire at Williams, which may have driven him away and prevented more casualties.

An In-N-Out employee dragged a wounded co-worker to safety while others helped until paramedics arrived.

Williams was armed with an AR-style rifle and opened fire at the restaurant around 2 pm, with the scene described as 'very chaotic' by Police Chief Matthew Hicks.
