2,500 detained, homes of 2 LeT terrorists razed in Kashmir after cop killing

Security forces demolished family homes of two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, Adil Ahmad Thoker and Haroon Rashid Ganaie, in Anantnag district using controlled explosives.

Police detained over 2,500 people across Kashmir for questioning, suspecting them of being overground workers providing logistics, shelter, cash, transport, and communications to terrorists.

The crackdown followed the fatal shooting of J&K police head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi in Lal Chowk market, Anantnag; the lone terrorist is still at large.

LG Manoj Sinha chaired a security review and directed heightened vigilance; he also reviewed arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, suspended since July 19 due to heavy rain.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah criticized the demolitions and mass detentions as counter-productive, warning that public anger over the police killing could be redirected.
