Police Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi of IR 3rd Battalion was killed in a terror attack at Lal Chowk in Anantnag at around 12:30 pm on July 22, 2026.
Qureshi, a resident of Beerwah in Budgam district, was deployed on Amarnath Yatra security duty when terrorists opened fire.
He was declared dead at Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag; security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
This is the first terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 civilians.
CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami condemned the attack as a heinous act and expressed condolences.
