Who was Aashiq Hussain Qureshi? Victim of first terror attack in J&K since Pahalgam killings

Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi, part of IR 3rd Battalion on Amarnath Yatra security duty, was killed by a lone terrorist in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir on July 22, 2026.

The attack occurred at Lal Chowk in Anantnag around 12.30 pm; Hussain was declared dead on arrival at Government Medical College hospital.

This is the first terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pahalgam attack in 2025, which killed 26 tourists.

Following the attack, a massive anti-terror operation was launched and dozens of suspected overground workers were detained.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and offered condolences.
