Terrorist kill J&K cop in Anantnag market, first strike since Pahalgam attack
Terrorists shot dead J&K police head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi in Anantnag's Lal Chowk market on Wednesday afternoon.
The attack is the first in Kashmir since the April 2025 Pahalgam massacre that killed 26 people.
Qureshi, part of IRP 3rd battalion, was securing the Lal Chowk-Kokernag axis when he was critically wounded and later died.
United Liberation Front J&K, a shadow group linked to The Resistance Front (offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba), claimed responsibility.
The brazen attack occurred during the Amarnath Yatra, which has been suspended since July 19 due to heavy rain and landslides.
