DMK moves SC, seeks immediate Cauvery water release by Karnataka
DMK moved the Supreme Court on Saturday seeking a direction to Karnataka to immediately release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, complying with CWMA directions.
The application was filed by DMK Farmers Wing secretary and former MP A.K.S. Vijayan, amid concerns over a water crisis in Tamil Nadu during the agricultural season.
DMK emphasized urgency, stating the current period is crucial for raising Kuruvai paddy and preparing for Samba cultivation in the Cauvery Delta.
The DMK seeks enforcement of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's (CWRC) July 28 direction for Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water per day at Biligundlu for 15 days from July 29.
Karnataka's appeal against the CWRC order was dismissed by the CWMA on July 30.
