‘When my father passed away, I thought everything had finished’: India’s CWG history-maker Asmita Dey remembers her dad

Asmita Dey won India's first-ever Commonwealth Games judo gold in the women's 48kg category at Glasgow, beating Canada's Heidi Quach 2-1.

Her father, a bicycle mechanic earning ₹300 daily, died of a brain stroke seven years ago; Dey credited his support for her success.

At age 12, she was scouted by judo coach Manik Lal Deb at Agartala sports hostel, who recalled her father asking him to help her 'become something'.
