Adityanath hails Asmita Dey for first-ever judo win at CWG, calls her 'Maa Bharati'

Asmita Dey won India's first-ever gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games, defeating Canada's Heidi Quach in the women's 48kg final.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated Dey, calling her achievement a tribute to 'Maa Bharati'.

Dey is a Sub-Inspector in the Uttar Pradesh Police; Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna praised her for bringing glory to the force.

Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak also praised Dey's hard work and wished her a bright future.

The win marked the first time an Indian judoka secured a top-of-the-podium finish at the CWG since judo was introduced in 1990.
