Asmita Dey wins India's first CWG Judo gold

Asmita Dey, 23, from Tripura, India, won the women's -48kg judo gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, beating Canada's Heidi Quach in the final.

Dey is the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in judo.

Her father, Arjun Kumar Dey, is a bicycle mechanic in Belonia, Tripura; she began with running before a coach introduced her to judo.

Dey's prior achievements include gold at the Junior Asia Cup in Macau (2023), silver at the Asian Open in Kuwait (2023), and gold at the Casablanca African Open (2025).
