Gurindervir Singh out of CWG 100m heats despite second place

Gurindervir Singh finished second in his 100m heat at the Commonwealth Games with a time of 10.39 seconds but placed 28th overall and missed the semifinals.

Coach James Hillier revealed Singh had been carrying a hamstring injury for a month, which affected his performance.

Singh set a national record of 10.09 seconds in May at the Federation Cup in Ranchi, making him India's fastest man.

Only the 17 fastest athletes across 11 heats progressed; a time of 10.24 seconds would have been needed to advance.

The injury was kept quiet by the team, and Singh could only run well for the first 60 meters.
