Cop shoots wife dead on her birthday in east Delhi

Delhi Police constable Manish Bhati allegedly shot dead his wife Priyanka Bhati, a 32-year-old schoolteacher, on a road in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri early Monday.

The shooting occurred hours after Priyanka celebrated her birthday at midnight; Bhati fled on his motorcycle after the incident.

Priyanka's family alleged dowry harassment by her husband and mother-in-law since their marriage in 2023.

Police suspect Bhati was drunk and shot his wife in the chest at point-blank range during an argument after leaving their home.

A delivery executive spotted Priyanka bleeding on the road around 3am; she was declared dead on arrival at LBS Hospital.
