Centre launches 'Seafarer-First' response after attacks on ships in Hormuz Strait

Following attacks on two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a high-level inter-ministerial meeting to review maritime security in West Asia. The government has initiated a comprehensive 'Seafarer-First' response to ensure the safety of Indian seafarers in the conflict zone.
Background
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime chokepoint for global oil and trade. Recent attacks on MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa have heightened security concerns, with 30 Indian seafarers among the 46 crew members. One Indian seafarer died and several were injured.

A comprehensive operational dashboard will be created by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) to track every Indian on every ship in the Gulf region.
24x7 coordination among Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Indian Navy, DGS, and Indian missions in Iran and Oman.
India strongly condemned the attacks on unarmed civilian commercial vessels.
The government assured full support to all Indian seafarers and their families.
