Glaw Lake becomes Arunachal Pradesh's first Ramsar site, India's 101st

Glaw Lake in Arunachal Pradesh's Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary became the state's first Ramsar site and India's 101st, announced by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.

Glaw Lake is a freshwater lake in the Eastern Himalayas, fed by perennial mountain streams, with over 150 tree species and 49 orchid species recorded within the site and its catchment.

India's Ramsar sites increased from 26 in 2014 to 101, reflecting the country's commitment to wetland conservation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

As a Ramsar site, Glaw Lake is recognized as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, requiring India to establish a management framework for its conservation.
