India gets 101st 'Ramsar' site as Arunachal Pradesh's Glaw Lake joins elite global list of protected wetlands
India's Glaw Lake in Arunachal Pradesh has been designated as the country's 101st Ramsar site, the state's first.
The lake is located within the Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary in the Eastern Himalayas.
The site hosts over 150 tree species and 49 orchid species.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the designation on X.
India now has the highest number of Ramsar sites in Asia and the third highest globally, after the UK (176) and Mexico (144).
