Jaish operative held in Bengal planned to target Suvendu, sabotage Jantar Mantar protest: STF
West Bengal Police's Special Task Force (STF) arrested alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operative Mohammed Hamim Mondal from Purba Bardhaman district.
Mondal allegedly planned to target West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, gathering information on his movements for Pakistan-based handlers.
He also planned to infiltrate the students' protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar by procuring a police uniform to carry out sabotage.
STF arrested Arpita Sarkar, alleged associate of Mondal, in connection with a honeytrap scheme to extort money from the son of a West Bengal minister, directed by Pakistan-based handlers linked to the Shahzad Bhatti gang.
IG (STF) Gaurav Sharma confirmed Mondal's links to Pakistan-based handlers and that several police officers and political leaders were on the terror module's radar.
