SC to hear plea on alternative protest site to Jantar Mantar

The Supreme Court agreed to examine a PIL seeking an alternative site to Jantar Mantar as Delhi's designated protest venue.

The petitioner, Satish Chand Kaushik, argued that repeated demonstrations at Jantar Mantar inconvenience residents and disrupt access to essential services.

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana issued notices to the Centre, the Delhi government, and other authorities.

The court requested Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to obtain instructions on the issues raised.

The plea references the July 20 students' protest that turned violent, and seeks to avoid similar incidents.
