Poonawalla quits BJP, mocks Modi critics
Former BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla released an Instagram video criticizing PM Narendra Modi's critics, saying Modi has 'still not learnt how to be a dictator' after 12 years in office.
Poonawalla cited former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru as examples of 'real dictatorship', referring to the Emergency and police firing on protesters in 1966.
He mentioned the 2011 Anna Hazare agitation, claiming 1,200-1,300 people were arrested and Rajbala lost her life, as an example of Congress governments' handling of protests.
Poonawalla's remarks came after PM Modi said he had 'forgiven' protesters who allegedly abused him and his late mother during recent student protests in Delhi, which led to the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
