UPS has attracted just 4% of NPS subscribers: Government

  1. The Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) has attracted only 4.3% of central government employees subscribed to the National Pension Trust (NPS), with 1,18,195 employees opting in as of July 19.

  2. The government introduced UPS from April 2025, offering assured pension at 50% of last salary, retirement gratuity, death gratuity, and a minimum monthly payout of Rs 10,000 for those with 10 years of qualifying service.

  3. The migration deadline for UPS has been extended to November 30, 2025, and the government has allowed one-time one-way switch back to NPS.

  4. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated there is no proposal to make changes or replace the UPS.
