Will end fast if govt gives assurance on key demands: Wangchuk
Sonam Wangchuk said he would break his 25-day hunger strike if the government gives assurance on key demands, including no legal action against agitators involved in a Delhi protest.
Wangchuk released a video from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met him for 45 minutes.
At least 65 opposition MPs signed a letter requesting Wangchuk to end his hunger strike; 15 MPs from six parties were stopped by police from visiting him.
Nadda confirmed the meeting and asked Wangchuk to break his fast and join the mainstream, but Wangchuk demanded assurance against FIRs and police threats.
Wangchuk began his indefinite fast on June 28 in solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over paper leaks.
