Pakistan avalanche LIVE: Search on to find Nirmal Purja, other missing climbers at Broad Peak

An avalanche struck Pakistan's Broad Peak in the Karakoram range on Thursday, causing a group of 10 climbers to go missing.

Rescuers found four bodies; three were recovered and identified as Nepalese climber Pur Bahadur Gurung, Omani climber Nathira Ahmed, and American climber Mallory Geis.

The missing group was led by Nepal-born mountaineer Nirmal Purja and included climbers from Nepal, Oman, the USA, Pakistan, China, and other countries.

Search and rescue operations were hampered by bad weather, with army helicopters involved; the search paused Friday evening and was to resume Saturday.

Broad Peak, at 8,047 meters, is the world's 12th-highest mountain, and climate change has increased avalanche risks in the region.
