Famed British Mountain Climber Missing After Avalanche in Pakistan
British climber Nirmal Purja, subject of Netflix documentary '14 Peaks,' is missing after an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan's Karakoram Range.
The avalanche occurred around midday Thursday; 10 people were on the expedition, including Purja and American climber Mallory Geis.
Rescuers have recovered four bodies; confirmed dead are Mallory Geis (American), an Omani national, and one Nepal national.
The expedition was climbing Broad Peak, the world's 12th-highest mountain at 26,400 feet; no communication since the avalanche.
Purja, 43, gained fame in 2019 by summiting all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters in six months and six days.
