Nirmal Purja missing: Latest update as ‘Nimsdai’ GPS tracker shows ‘slight movement’ after avalanche leaves 10 missing

Nirmal Purja, also known as Nimsdai, is among 10 missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak in Pakistan.

The Everest Chronicle reported that Purja's GPS tracker showed slight movement, but it might be a glitch; tracking data showed he reached 6,659m at 9:38 a.m. local time on Thursday, then rapidly descended about 800m to 5,891m at 10:18 a.m., consistent with the avalanche.

Rescue teams located four bodies; helicopters are aiding the search for remaining climbers.

The expedition included five Nepalese climbers and nationals from the US, Pakistan, China, and Oman, plus another foreign national.

Purja, a former British Special Forces member, made history in 2019 by climbing all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters in about six months.
