The Pentagon created a new category for casualties in the Iran war labeled 'overseas operations casualties starting July 7, 2026', making the full tally harder to track.

Four U.S. service members killed last weekend were restored to the count but placed in the new category, requiring users to add numbers from two separate web pages.

The number of wounded since July 7 was raised to 207 (142 more than previously reported), bringing the total to 624 since the war began on February 28.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell denied concealment, while a New York Times report revealed the Pentagon had previously lowered the death count from 18 to 14.

The White House views the latest escalation as a new conflict, and the House voted a second time to direct President Trump to end the war or seek explicit authorization.
