Pentagon lowers Iran war troop death toll from 18 to 14
The US Department of Defense lowered the reported American troop deaths in the Iran war from 18 to 14 within a day.
The four removed service members died at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan and in northern Iraq after President Trump declared a ceasefire.
The administration decided not to count those deaths as wartime fatalities, according to anonymous US military officials.
Acting Pentagon press secretary Joel Valdez attributed the discrepancy to “temporary data disruptions” and “site anomalies”.
President Trump publicly contradicted the Pentagon, stating the death toll was 18 despite the official website showing 14.
