India launches UNSC campaign for 2028-29 term, Jaishankar unveils ‘SHANTI’ vision
India officially launched its campaign for a non-permanent United Nations Security Council seat for the 2028-29 term.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar introduced the SHANTI vision (Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity) as the guiding principle for the campaign.
India emphasized its peacekeeping record, development partnerships, and commitment to a rules-based global order during the launch at UN headquarters in New York.
Jaishankar highlighted priorities including amplifying the voice of the Global South, strengthening peacekeeping, and addressing terrorism, climate change, and maritime security.
India has previously served eight terms as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
