India launches campaign for UN Security Council non-permanent seat for 2028-29 term

India launched its official campaign 'Shanti: India for the United Nations Security Council 2028-29' for a non-permanent seat, announced by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the UN headquarters.

The campaign is centered on the theme 'SHANTI: Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust, Integrity'.

India will compete with Tajikistan for the sole Asia-Pacific Group seat in elections to be held in June 2027 for the 2028-29 term.

India last served as a non-permanent UNSC member for the 2021-22 term.
