Austria turns Hitler’s birthplace into a police station 81 years after his death: 5 things to know

Austrian authorities inaugurated a police station at Adolf Hitler's birthplace in Braunau am Inn.

The goal is to prevent the site from being a pilgrimage destination for neo-Nazis.

Stephan Mlczoch, head of the Austrian interior ministry's history department, said the aim was to strip the site of its association with Hitler.

The decision was made after years of debate about the site's troubled legacy.
