Hitler's birthplace in Austria begins new life as a police station

Adolf Hitler's birthplace in Braunau am Inn, Austria, officially becomes a police station on July 22, 2026.

The Austrian government compulsorily purchased the property in 2017 and announced its conversion in 2019 to prevent neo-Nazi pilgrimage.

The building previously housed a charity for handicapped people and was in private ownership.

A rock from the Mauthausen concentration camp with the inscription "Never again fascism" remains outside, without mentioning Hitler.

Interior ministry official Stephan Mlczoch stated the conversion aims to strip the building of its association with Hitler and prevent mystique.
