‘I didn't want to leave Glasgow empty-handed’: Tejaswin Shankar after winning miraculous bronze in men’s decathlon

Tejaswin Shankar won a bronze medal in men's decathlon at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games despite a knee injury from the high jump event.

Shankar pulled out of the high jump after his first attempt due to the injury but chose to stay and support teammate Sarvesh Kushare, who won silver in high jump.

Shankar said he didn't want to leave Glasgow empty-handed and credited Sreeshankar's advice to take one event at a time for his decathlon performance.

This is Shankar's second CWG medal; he previously won bronze in high jump at the 2022 Birmingham Games.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Shankar on X, saying Indian athletes continue to create history.
