Government approves 2 tunnels for Valley-Jammu connectivity
Cabinet approved two strategic tunnel projects on NH-244 in Jammu and Kashmir at an estimated cost of around Rs 9,800 crore.
The projects include the Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel and the Sudhmahadev-Dranga tunnel, with approach roads, on the Anantnag-Chenani corridor.
The tunnels aim to provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, and improve access to Chenab Valley and districts like Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur.
The 39 km Singhpora-Vailoo stretch will have 10 km unidirectional twin-tube tunnels, and the 13 km Sudhmahadev-Dranga section will have 8 km tunnels.
The projects are fully Centre-funded, will be completed in five years, and aim to bypass difficult stretches frequently affected by adverse weather.
