Cabinet approved two major tunnel projects in J&K

  1. The Union Cabinet approved two tunnel projects on NH-244 in Jammu and Kashmir at an estimated cost of Rs 9,800 crore.

  2. The projects include the Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel (10 km) and Sudhmahadev-Dranga tunnel (8 km), providing all-weather connectivity between Kashmir Valley and Jammu.

  3. The tunnels will bypass stretches of NH-244 frequently affected by snowfall, landslides, and adverse weather, improving access to Chenab Valley.

  4. The projects will strengthen road connectivity in Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts and reduce travel time.

  5. The projects are fully Centre-funded and will be completed in five years.
