Senior Russian general survives assassination attempt in Moscow restaurant blast: Report

Colonel General Alexander Chayko, commander-in-chief of Russia's Aerospace Forces, survived an assassination attempt when a bomb exploded at the Balzi Rossi restaurant in Moscow.

The blast, estimated at 1 kg of TNT, killed Chayko's son-in-law Daniil Peredriy and left his daughter Maria with a critical brain injury.

The device, packed with metal balls, was reportedly brought by a woman who may have unknowingly served as a courier.

Five people were killed and 19 injured; casualty figures varied across reports.

Ukraine had branded Chayko a war criminal in June, but no official confirmation links the attack to Kyiv.
