Moscow restaurant blast: Woman carrying homemade bomb kills 3, injures 21 in explosion near upscale venue

A homemade bomb carried by a woman exploded near an upscale Italian restaurant in central Moscow on August 1, 2026, killing 3 people and injuring at least 21.

The blast occurred at Kudrinskaya Square near the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant, located in one of Moscow's seven Stalin-era skyscrapers.

Russia's Anti-Terrorism Committee said the woman was stopped by a security guard before the explosion; the woman, the guard, and a customer were killed.

The Kommersant newspaper suggested the bomb was detonated remotely and may have been intended for guests on the restaurant's summer terrace; the venue was closed for a private event.

Russian authorities did not identify suspects, but the FSB had earlier announced increased protection for military officials amid a series of assassinations blamed on Ukraine.
