HC allows Gadkari to sue Meta, X, Google over ‘defamatory’ E20 posts
Bombay High Court granted Union minister Nitin Gadkari permission to file a civil defamation suit against Meta Platforms, X Corp, and Google LLC over posts and AI-generated deepfake videos linking him to India's ethanol-blended petrol (EBP) programme.
Gadkari alleged the posts falsely claimed he was responsible for implementing the ethanol-blending programme and that he and his family financially benefited from it.
The suit seeks interim relief including a temporary injunction against the defamatory content, and ₹11 crore in damages.
The petition argued the content is false, fabricated, malicious, and contains abusive language implying corruption and nepotism.
